A week in Elviria with a 3-year-old is just perfect. We spent a full week there last September and had one of our most relaxing family holidays to date. Elviria is laid-back, child-friendly, and ideal for parents who want sunshine without stress.
We alternated between beach days and pool days and took one easy day trip to Marbella. In this guide, I’ll share exactly what to expect when visiting Elviria with a toddler. This article will outline where we stayed, what we did, and the best family-friendly places to eat.
Where is Elviria?
Part of the Costa Del Sol, Elviria lies between Malaga (45km) and Marbella (6km). The Costa Del Sol is famous for its beautiful sandy beaches, and Elviria definitely reinforces that image.
Unlike some of the livelier resorts, Elviria remains quite residential. A week here with a 3-year-old gives you a chilled-out, relaxed vibe. So if you’re looking for a late-night party town, Elviria is not the one for you. That’s exactly why we chose it!

Why We Chose Elviria
It can be tough being a parent to a (very) energetic toddler. We can’t just jump on a plane and “see what happens” anymore. Instead, we plan around what our little one needs and choose destinations that make life easier (for everyone).
Here’s what we look for when organising our family holiday:
- Short flight time – We’ve avoided long-haul flights for now. I don’t think I could manage the stress to be honest. Three hours on a plane was manageable though. So perfect for a week in Elviria with a 3-year-old.
- Close to the airport – We aim for under an hour’s transfer time. Elviria is 30–40 minutes from Malaga Airport. We booked with Suntransfers.com (€167 return) and had no issues with them.
- Self-catering apartment – Breakfasts and lunches in the apartment help save money and keep a more predictable structure for the day. We sometimes find it difficult to keep that structure and this can help a little.
- Within a hotel complex – So we get the benefits of self-catering and hotel services (cleaning, pool, kids club, etc.).
- Separate bedroom and living area – Essential. We can put our toddler to bed and still have space to unwind (and drink wine).
- Bathtub – what we are used to at home.
- Walking distance to the beach
- Walking distance to a variety of restaurants
It’s a long checklist, but it genuinely makes the holiday smoother.
Where to Stay for a Week in Elviria with a 3-Year-Old
After a lot of research, we chose Ona Alanda Club Marbella, and it ticked every box. Another option I’ve written about previously was a similiar type holiday in Cala D’Or in Mallorca. You can read about that adventure here.
Ona Alanda Club Marbella
Location is everything. Ona Alanda sits on the beach side of the busy A-7 roadway (the main road between Malaga and Marbella). If you’re staying in Elviria, the area between the A-7 and the beach is ideal — anything further uphill is a longer walk to shops, restaurants, and the sea.
Our apartment block was actually across the road from the main hotel building, even closer to the beach — only 200m away.
What we loved:
- Super friendly, helpful staff
- Playground on-site
- Poolside children’s entertainment every few days
- Beautiful apartment with sea views
- Quick fixes for the small maintenance issues we reported (window shutters and a balcony door lock)
The complex can feel a little dated in places (hence the small maintenance issues noted above), but overall we had a fantastic stay and would happily return.
Other Accommodation Options in Elviria
- Marriott’s Marbella Beach Resort
Beachfront and more upscale than Ona Alanda (and priced accordingly!). - Gran Marbella Resort and Beach Club
A newer 5-star luxury resort right on the beach. Beautiful, but expensive. - AluaSun Marbella Park
Similar feel to Ona Alanda, closer to the commercial zone but a bit farther from the beach.
Where to Shop
Since we were self-catering, our first stop after arriving in Elviria was the local supermarket to stock the kitchen.
Both main supermarkets are in the commercial zone on the other side of the A-7. It’s about a 10-minute walk, though the footpath on the bridge is quite bumpy with a buggy.
- Carrefour Market – Large, full selection of everything you need.
- Supercor Express – Smaller but convenient, especially with late opening hours until 2am.
There’s also a small retail strip directly opposite Ona Alanda’s reception with a souvenir shop — handy for beach toys.
Where to Eat in Elviria
Here’s everywhere we ate during our week in Elviria with a 3-year-old. All restaurants are either in the commercial zone (over the bridge), across from the hotel, or on the beach.
Chiringuito El Laurel – Not family-friendly; poor service
The closest beach bar to our apartment. Unfortunately, the service was poor — we were seated in a corner with no sea view, barely acknowledged, and didn’t feel welcome. While the food was nice, we just didn’t like the feel of the place.
We didn’t return.
Expect to pay around €30 for a steak.
El Barracón de las Tapas – Best value, great food (we went twice!)
Located in the commercial zone. Busy, good atmosphere, excellent value.
Our favourite restaurant of the trip.
Perla Blanca – Nice but unremarkable lunch
Another beach bar. Food was perfectly fine.
Lunch for all three of us was €48.
Great spot for ordering drinks to your sun loungers.
Trattoria La Bella Fiastra – Solid Italian option
Located in the commercial zone.
Pizzas cost around €17.
Good, reliable place for a family meal.
Churreria Bar Cafe – Great churros and great value
A lovely spot for a late breakfast.
€20 for coffees, juices, churros, and a Spanish breakfast.
Highly recommended.
Tony’s Beach Restaurant – Fancy but kid-friendly
More upscale but still welcoming to children. Colouring books and crayons provided.
Our most expensive meal: €114 for 2 adults and a child’s main course and drinks.
Restaurante Bella Luna – Good takeaway pizza
Perfect for the night our toddler was too tired to go out again after a busy day trip to Marbella.
Simple, good Italian food.
Beach House Restaurant Marbella – Cool vibe, great service
A stylish beach bar with really friendly staff.
More expensive — around €25 for a burger — but a lovely spot for a lunch we really enjoyed.
What We Did for a Week in Elviria with a 3-Year-Old
Mostly? We relaxed. Long beach days, pool time, slow mornings. Exactly the holiday we needed.
But we did manage a few extra activities:
- Playground north of the commercial zone
Great for our little man, with coffee stops on the way. - Aventura Amazonia Marbella
A high-wire adventure park with a brilliant toddler area. Our child loved it. - Bus trip to Marbella (Route 220)
The bus stop is nearby and buses come fairly regularly, though not always on schedule.
If you’re feeling more adventurous, there are zoos, aquariums, and water parks a short drive away. For that, you’d probably need a rental car.
Wrapping Up Our Week in Elviria with a 3 Year Old
Overall, Ona Alanda ticked all the boxes for us, and we had a genuinely lovely week in Elviria with our 3-year-old. The spacious apartment and the short walk to the beach made everything effortless.
It wasn’t a luxury holiday but it delivered exactly what we wanted:
sunshine, relaxation, and quality family time.
While at this sort of age, a lot of families go for all inclusive options. While I totally get that, the idea of staying within one complex for a whole week didn’t really appeal to us. Self catering in Elviria offers you everything you need within a 10-15 walk but still makes you feel like you’re part of a community rather than just a customer.
